Nautical Star

Adam's first tattoo with color! He sure was excited about getting some color today and I was happy to give it to him. This boy has been through a lot in his young life and he deserves a little bright spot in his life.
The question was asked during the application of this tattoo, "Why do people get stars tattooed on them?" Well, that is a very good question and the answer is probably as varied as there are people who get them! Traditionally however, stars were a favorite of sailors to remind them of the way home...or as a talisman to keep them from losing their way. That's what I've heard anyway and that's the story I'm sticking with!
Check back later and see what else is brewing at Greenbrier's best (and first) tattoo studio!

Evolution of a tattoo studio

Change comes to everything and everyone; change has now come to Artistic Ink Tattoo Studio. First off; we have a new artist! Everyone please come by and welcome Lee Richardson to the shop! Lee and I first worked together at Forever Yours in Lakewood, Tennessee. That's been a few years ago so don't go asking me when; you'll make me feel old!
Anyway, we both went our separate ways after we left that place and have bumped into each other from time to time but haven't been able to work together again until now.
This leads me to the other bit of change here in Greenbrier's best little tattoo studio; we are now piercing again! That's right folks! Piercing is back! Lee is a licensed piercer and does all of the standard piercings; however, don't ask for any of the exotic (pubic area) piercings. He would prefer to stay away from those (something about he's done enough of those for two lifetimes)!
So come on down to the shop and check out some piercing action!

What do tribal tattoos mean to you?

Some of you may recognize this image from the movie, Twilight; Eclipse. The main werewolf played by Taylor Lautner (my daughter's favorite) has this double wolf image tattooed on his arm if I remember correctly. Mind you, I haven't seen either of the movies nor have I read any of the books. But I digress.
If you look closely, you'll see that the young lady who got this tattoo changed a few small details to personalize the image for herself. The differences are minor and shouldn't be too difficult for you to find.
The image originally represents two wolves facing each other and are done in an Inuit or northwest coastal indian style. I'm sure you can say the dot surrounded by a circle between them could easily represent the full moon...this tattoo is on a werewolf after all.
You will also find, upon closer inspection, two zodiac symbols and a stylized veterinary caduceus are also between them. Including these symbols changes the ultimate meaning of the tattoo. While she certainly isn't a werewolf (not that I could tell), she does like wolves and obviously animals in general. She works in some capacity in the Veterinary business and is either a cancer or a gemini. Perhaps her significant other is one of these signs; perhaps she has two children and they are cancer and gemini. Things that make you say, "Hmmm..." If her children are represented by the zodiac signs why has she left no room for future children in her design?
Most interesting...
So, the design tells us something about the wearer; perhaps a little about her interests and her personal life. But it doesn't tell us everything. This is the beauty of tattoo...if you want to learn more you'll just have to ask her.
